Input Power Transients and Brown-Outs Can Be Both Unpredictable and Damaging
Protect Your System with Gaia's Hi-Rel Transient Protection Front End Modules
Gaia Converter's input transient protection modules are designed to provide a superior level of protection for electronic systems against high (or low) voltage transients that can occur on an input bus line.
These modules provide 4 possible modes of operations:

Normal operation: When input voltage is within the nominal input voltage range(s) of the following DC/DC converters, the modules then operate in a steady transparency state.

Transient operation: The modules clamp input transients for compliance with international input bus standards such as :

– for Hi-Rel grade modules MIL-STD-704, EN2282, DO-160 and MIL-STD-1275

– for industrial grade modules EN50155, RIA12 and IEC571.

Low line operation (brownout / cranking): Only available on the PGDS models, Low line operation occurs when the input bus voltage drops down below the rated nominal input voltage range(s) of the system’s DC/DC converters. The PGDS then operates in “boost” mode to provide an output voltage compatible with the DC/DC converters. The PGDS series can sustain low line operation down to 6V.

Power fail operation: The module shuts down its output when input under-voltage, over temperature and/or output over-current conditions are met to protect the system.
